69th Shogakukan Manga Awards: Wins for Frieren, Elusive Samurai, Trillion Game, Sūji de Asobo

The evaluation panel for the 69th edition of the Shogakukan Manga Awards declared this year’s champions on Thursday. Every winning manga will be recognised with a bronze figurine and a cash reward of 1 million yen, equivalent to around US$6,800.

Other runners in the competition included Unmei no Makimodo Shi – All Great Achievements Require Time, Kyō kara Papa wa Kami Desu., Black Girls Talk, Shujinkou Nikki, Ice Castle Wall, Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, Shōjiki Fudōsan, and Ya Boy Kongming!

In a first, the nominees were not split into categories. Past categories for the accolades encompassed: Best Children’s Manga, Best Shōnen Manga, Best Shōjo Manga, and Best General Manga. However, this year’s nominations continued to showcase a diverse selection of works across many genres.

Since 1956 (for publications in 1955), Shogakukan has been conferring this prize. Last year’s recipients included Ui×Kon; Call of the Night; Blue Orchestra (Ao no Orchestra); Ashita, Watashi wa Dareka no Kanojo; and Medalist.
