Astra Award for Best Streaming Animated Series Goes to Attack on Titan Anime

The Hollywood Creative Alliance, previously known as Hollywood Critics Association, bestowed the Astra Award for Best Streaming Animated Series upon the anime Attack on Titan during Monday night’s award ceremony.

Upon the same occasion on Saturday night, the Astra Award for Best International Filmmaker was conferred to Hayao Miyazaki. Another contender at the ceremony was Suzume – or Suzume no Tojimari – which was nominated for the Best Animated Feature category. However, it was outdone by Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The closing episode of the Attack on Titan anime debuted on November 4 via the NHK General channel. Both Crunchyroll and Hulu propagated the stream of the anime. The finale boasts a duration of 85 minutes.

The theme song “Nisen-nen… Moshiku wa…. Niman-nen ato no Kimi e” (To You in 2,000… or… 20,000 Years From Now) was given voice by Linked Horizon.

Japan streamed parts 1 and 2 of Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS as standalone episodes, extending the length of Attack on Titan The Final Season by episodes 88-94. These segments featured unique opening and ending theme songs. The opening theme song, “Saigo no Kyojin” (The Last Titan), was performed by Linked Horizon while Ai Higuchi offered her performance to the ending theme song “Itterasshai” (Have a Safe Trip).

The premier part was broadcast as a one-hour special on March 3. Under the title, Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 1, Crunchyroll streamed the anime and it was further disseminated by Hulu. The initial part was subject to broadcasting on Toonami as of September 9. A fresh theme song “Under the Tree” was brought forth by SIM for the occasion. (The Japanese version of Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 3 is acknowledged as Shingeki no Kyojin The Final Season Kanketsu-hen Zenpen which identifies it as the initial half, whereas Part 4 is known as Shingeki no Kyojin The Final Season Kanketsu-hen Kōhen which marks it as the concluding half.)

The Attack on Titan The Final Season anime made its appearance on NHK in December 2020, generating a total of 16 episodes. It was distributed with English subtitles both by Funimation and Crunchyroll. Then in January 2021, Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block aired the anime, while Funimation also introduced an English dub that same month.
