On Tuesday, the conventional sites of the animation studios, Bandai Namco Filmworks and Sunrise Beyond, simultaneously reported that Bandai Namco Filmworks is set to combine with its entirely owned arm, Sunrise Beyond, effective from April 1. The merger will result in the dissolution of Sunrise Beyond, with Bandai Namco Filmworks assuming all rights and obligations held by the subsidiary.

Sunrise Beyond was created back in 2019, its primary focus being the production of screen content (with a strong emphasis on animation), Intellectual Property (IP) production and usage, and the management of rights. It was also tasked to undertake most of the production work previously handled by IG Port’s past anime studio Xebec.

Gamebiz servicerevealed that for the fiscal year that ended in March 2023, Sunrise Beyond incurred a final loss of 94 million yen (roughly US$650,000), marking the subsidiary’s second consecutive fiscal year of losses. Contrastingly, Bandai Namco Filmworks reported a final profit of 5.343 billion yen (approximately US$37.1 million) in the same fiscal year.

In 2021, the collaboration between Sunrise Beyond and toy and hobby company Bandai Spirits saw the production of AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline (Kyōkai Senki). The latest output from the project, a six-episode work known as Kyōkai Senki Kyokkō no Sōki, debuted on the Bandai Spirits YouTube channel on August 10.

Moreover, Sunrise Beyond is recognized for its contribution to the animation production of several shows, including Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE Season 2, Gundam Build Metaverse, The Faraway Paladin: The Lord of Rust Mountain, and KING’S RAID: Successors of the Will, along with the Kidō Senshi Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans: Urðr-Hunt (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans: Urðr-Hunt) mobile app spin-off.
