“Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199” Anime Teaser for 7 Films Debuts July 19
On Wednesday, the official webpage for the upcoming Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199 (Imperishable Yamato: Rebel 3199), which represents the latest endeavour in the Space Battleship Yamato revamps, released an exciting new teaser trailer and intriguing visual for the anime. The teaser introduces the individuals responsible for the anime and confirms that it will be launched as a series of seven films, with the initial film, “Kuro no Shinryaku” (Dark Invasion), scheduled for release on July 19.
Renowned manga creator and mechanical designer Kia Asamiya (Silent Möbius, Nadesico) illustrated the below teaser visual for the anime. The fresh teaser graphic pays tribute to a visual design for the 1980 film Be Forever Yamato.
Naomichi Yamato (From the New World, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans episode director) is at the helm of the new anime, while Harutoshi Fukui is the supervising director, and is also in charge of the screenplay and scriptwriting, similar to his roles in previous anime in the series. Hideki Oka contributes as an additional scriptwriter. Nobuteru Yuki serves as the character designer, while Junichirō Tamamori, Mika Akitaka, and Yasushi Ishizu handle the mechanical designs. Hiroyuki Goto takes charge as the CG producer, Shōsuek Uechi functions as the CG director, and Tomohiro Yoshida is responsible for the sound design
In line with previous anime series, late producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki is acknowledged posthumously for the original work, while his son Shoji Nishizaki succeeds him as chief production supervisor and intellectual property supervisor. Akira Miyagawa resumes composing the music, in collaboration with Shu Kanematsu (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses). Akira Miyagawa’s late father and original Space Battleship Yamato composer Hiroshi Miyagawa also receives credit for the musical score.
Previously, Fukui affirmed during an event conversation that “Of course, Garman Garmillas will make an appearance” in the new anime, referring to the Garmillas residual empire featured in Space Battleship Yamato III (Uchǖ Senkan Yamato 3) and Final Yamato. He clarified that the project will span 26 episodes. Later, Fukui declared that the storyline will commence in 2207, despite what the film’s title may suggest. He further added that the series will not “instantaneously warp” to 3199.
The new endeavor comes as the follow-up to the Uchū Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi – Kōshō -STASHA- (Celestial Battleship Yamato 2205: The Fresh Start Part II: Stasha) film, that premiered in February 2022.
Yamato yo Towa ni (Stay Eternal Yamato) also served as the title for the 1980 follow-up to the original Yamato anime endeavors. Although the narrative of the 1980 film does not occur in 3199, the storyline for the 2004 original video anime series Dai Yamato Zero-go is set during that year.
