Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning: Shout! Studios, Toei Animation’s Distribution Deal Announced
revealed on Wednesday their collaboration for a home distribution agreement to introduce the
Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning
to various media outlets and home entertainment markets in the U.S. and Canada this year.
This agreement, which spans numerous years, grants Shout! Studios North American home entertainment distribution rights to the film, inclusive of all packaged mediums and digital electronic sales rights.
The home entertainment release of the film will incorporate its English dub, with the voice acting of Brian Donovan, a returnee from the TV series, voicing Daisuke Motomiya (or Davis Motomiya in English) in the film.
The film’s synopsis, as detailed by Shout! Studios:
Taking place in 2012, a decade has elapsed since the adventures in the Digital World. Daisuke Motomiya is now a 20-year-old, and he along with the other DigiDestined appear to be undergoing a gradual transformation both in their looks and lifestyle. On a surprising day, a gigantic Digitama suddenly makes an appearance in Tokyo Tower’s skyline. Daisuke and his companions encounter an enigmatic young man by the name Lui Ohwada, who discloses that he is the very first DigiDestined in the world…
Distinguished director Tomohisa Taguchi (who is known for the four-part Persona 3 the Movie film series, Kino’s Journey – The Beautiful World, Twin Star Exorcists) and scriptwriter Akatsuki Yamatoya (Digimon Adventure, Digimon Frontier, Digimon: Data Squad), the anime studio Yumeta Company, and the producing company Toei Animation all made a return from Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna.
Digimon Adventure 02 went down in history as the first direct TV anime follow-up to the original Digimon Adventure series, although it introduced a fresh set of primary characters. The series had its broadcasting period from April 2000 to March 2001 in Japan, and it was launched from August 2000 to May 2001 in the United States. Discotek announced in July 2023 that it will launch the anime first in English and then in Japanese.
The sequel to Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, a film, portrayed “the final adventure of Tai and Agumon.” The film launched in Japan in February 2020, and subsequently found its way to international theaters in 2020-2021.
