Disney+ Debuts Hideo Kojima’s Connecting Worlds Documentary on February 23

Japan’s official Disney+ Twitter account revealed on Friday that Glen Milner’s documentary, Hideo Kojima – Connecting Worlds will make its debut on the streaming service on February 23.

Variety, a news entertainment website, backed up Disney+ plans to broadcast the documentary globally. The Game Awards’ official English Twitter account also affirmed the premier date. Initially, the worldwide premiere was estimated for the spring of 2024.

The insightful documentary first aired at the Tribeca Festival in New York City’s The Indeed Theater at Spring Studios last summer. The film profiles renowned game developer Hideo Kojima, known for his work on games such as Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding. It traces his creative journey with the launch of his independent studio, Kojima Productions, and features appearances from eminent figures such as Guillermo del Toro, Nicholas Winding Refn, Grimes, George Miller, Norman Reedus, Woodkid, and the band Chvrches.

At the Game Awards event held on December 7, Kojima Productions made a grand reveal of their latest venture, a game titled OD. The project is a collaborative effort with Jordan Peele, famed film director, and comic, known for his work on Get Out, Us, and Nope. The upcoming game stars actress Sophia Lillis, renowned for her roles in It and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Hideo Kojima is the creative brains behind the Metal Gear game developed for Konami in 1987. The game was instrumental in forging the stealth game genre and gave birth to the Metal Gear series. Kojima bid Konami farewell in December 2015, leading to Kojima Productions attaining independent status.

Kojima Productions’ first standalone title, the game Death Stranding, was shipped for PlayStation 4 in November 2019. The PC version of the game was published by 505 Games in the early summer of 2020. The game inspired a two-part novelization that hit the bookstands in November 2019. A Steelbook edition was made available in February 2020. The immersive game bagged the Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design and Outstanding Technical Achievement prizes at the 23rd Annual D.I.C.E. Awards in February 2020. The esteemed British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) presented Kojima with the Fellowship at the BAFTA Games Awards in April 2020.

The anticipated follow-up Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, is on track to be released in 2025. Actors named in Death Stranding 2 include Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Troy Baker.

In November 2021, Kojima Productions took the bold step to start a dedicated music, television, and film division based in Los Angeles, California. The company is now focused on delivering the game Death Stranding 2.
