Hakubo no Chronicle Live-Action Show Trailer, Theme Song Reveal, Debuting March 1
WOWOW has debuted a brand new comprehensive trailer and poster artwork for the upcoming live-action series adaptation of Masami Yuuki‘s Hakubo no Chronicle manga. The trailer discloses the planned airing date on March 1, while also providing a sneak peek into the series’ theme song entitled “FATE” by the male idol group WEST. The series is slated to have a 12 episode length.
In the casting of WEST, Tomohiro Kamiyama will be seen performing the role of Kai Yukimura. Airi Matsui will be portraying Akari Fusegi, a newly recruited official of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. The series will also include other actors such as Terunosuke Takezai, Tsutomu Takahashi, Nanami Sakuraba, Ron Mizuma, Kentarō Tamura, Yuki Katayama, Kana Harada, Kaito Yoshimura, Haruka Kudō, Toshihiro Yashiba, Reika Kirishima, Gō Rijū, Kumi Mizuno, Ryūsuke Ōbayashi, Ayumu Ito, and Ken Mitsuishi.
The supernaturally themed suspense story of the series follows the character of Yukimura. Despite his youthful appearance suggesting he is 18 years old, Yukimura is in fact 88 years old. He partners up with the newly appointed official of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Akari Fusegi, with the goal to halt the activities of a serial killer — and to take revenge. It is suggested that Yukimura’s past lover was a victim of this serial killer, nicknamed “Sheep Killer,” who specifically commits murders during Christmas of the Year of the Goat every 12 years. The intervals between the killings hint at an okinaga like Yukimura as the only possible culprit.
Kazuhiro Nakagawa(well-known for his live-action Double and “Godzilla vs. Hedorah”) and Gō Sasaki are set to direct the series, while the scripts will be provided by Shōta Koyama (well-known for Jashin no Tenbin), Taiki Yamazaki (known for AIBOU: Tokyo Detective Duo, Ultraman Blazar), and Shiori Tanaka. The music for the series will be composed by Harumi Fuuki, known for her work on Forest of Piano, Miss Hokusai, Lonely Castle in the Mirror, and The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes.
Masami Yuuki initiated the manga on Shogakukan‘s Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine in August 2013, marking his first weekly series in a decade. Shogakukan then published the 11th and last compiled volume of the said manga in 2017.
The Tetsuwan Birdy Evolution (Birdy the Mighty Evolution) series by Yuuki was published from 2008 to 2012 in Weekly Big Comic Spirits. This series is a follow-up to his earlier remake Tetsuwan Birdy (Birdy the Mighty) that was carried in Shogakukan‘s Weekly Young Sunday and Big Comic Spirits publications. Although the manga versions of Birdy the Mighty have not been introduced in North America, the anime adaptations were released by the firms Central Park Media and Funimation. Additionally, Viz Media brought some of Yuuki’s Mobile Police Patlabor manga to North America.
