Hideo Kojima Announces Return of Action/Spy Genre, Release Date for Death Stranding 2

Today, Kojima Productions unveiled during Sony’s State of Play that the upcoming original project from Hideo Kojima will fall under the action/espionage genre. It was also announced that “Death Strading 2: On the Beach” is slated to release in 2025.

The development for the new game began after the completion of “Death Stranding 2,” in partnership with PlayStation. Kojima describes it as an attempt to transcend the boundaries between video games and film, and also promotes it as a movie like experience.

For now, no release date has been announced for this mysterious game, but Kojima highlighted that his 40-year anniversary in the industry will be marked in two years’ time. Could this be a clue?

The company also revealed, as previously stated, that “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” will hit the shelves next year. Accompanying this announcement, a new trailer unveiling the story, gameplay and characters was shared:

“Death Stranding 2” will star Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Troy Baker.

As a reminder, Kojima Productions released the original “Death Stranding” for PlayStation 4 in November 2019 before it was released on PC the following July. The PS5 version of “Death Stranding: Director’s Cut” was offered in September 2021 and reached PS2 through Steam and the Epic Games Store in March 2022.

A film adaptation of the game, supported by Hammerstone Studios, is currently under development.

Also, at the 2023 Game Awards, Kojima announced a new game titled “OD” in collaboration with Jordan Peele, a notable film director and actor. The game will feature Sophai Lilllis from “It, Donjons & Dragons: L’honneur des voleurs.”
