Japan’s Best-Selling Game System Ever: Nintendo Switch

Switch as part of its third-quarter fiscal results for the current financial year on Tuesday. The Switch unit has registered 33.34 million units of sales in Japan, eclipsing the 32.99 million sales notch of the
DS, making Switch the unprecedented top-seller game equipment (either home or portable) in Japan. Besides, the
Switch experienced the greatest number of yearly players, touching the 122 million mark.
Looking at the sales trends, sales of the regular model experienced a dip of 34.9%, while the sales of the OLED model witnessed a hike of 6.2%. Concurrently, the Nintendo Switch Lite also saw an upward trend by 9.1%.
Nintendo additionally disclosed that their machine business sales saw a rise of 4.7%, and mobile/IP-related revenue witnessed a skyrocketing increase of 93.4% against the previous year, hitting the 75.2 billion yen (approximately US$507 million) mark owing majorly to revenue from films and an uptick in royalty income.
The Nintendo Switch console has recorded 139.36 million units of global sales, including spans of the Nintendo Switch, Lite, and OLED consoles as of December 31.
