Digital Manga Guild has previously released The Shinsen-gumi as digital content in English. The manga is described as:

Set in Kyoto in the late 1800s, Kyujuro Fukakusa, a local book-binder’s son, witnesses his father’s murder and swears to avenge his death. In his pursuit for justice, Kyujuro answers the recruitment call of The Shinsen-gumi (also known as “The New Squad”) – a special unit of samurais loyal to the shogun. Here, he meets Daisuke Kamakiri, another recruited samurai with prolific swordsmanship. Despite their different levels of combat prowess, they form a close bond. But will their relationship stand against the impending era of turmoil known as “The Wolves of Mibu?”

The original manga was published by Shueisha in Shonen Book in 1963. The manga later served as inspiration for a kabuki play in August 2022.
