light novel sequence on January 10, that the novel sequence is transitioning to its conclusion stage, dubbed “District 86,” in the forthcoming volume.

Yen Press is issuing the 86 light novel series in English, and provides a summary of the plot:

The Republic of San Magnolia is under assault from its neighboring Empire. Beyond the Republic’s 85 districts lies the “invisible 86th district”, where young men and women persist in their combat. Sheen guides the operations of young fighters on a suicide mission, while Lena is a “curator” who leads a unit from a remote supportive position. Thus unfolds the heart-wrenching duel between them!

Asato kicked off the novel series via Kadokawa‘s Dengeki Bunko imprint in April 2017. Shirabi (The Ryuo’s Work Is Never Done!, Myriad Colors Phantom World) contributed the illustrations, whereas artist I-IV (Aldnoah.Zero, Re:CREATORS) managed the mechanical design. In addition, the light novel series has given rise to a manga edition by Motoki Yoshihara published under Square Enix‘s Young Gangan imprint. Yen Press is also bringing out the manga in English.

The novels prompted an anime version which debuted on TV in April 2021. The anime series ran for two cours (quarters of the year). The two cours were divided, and the second run started in October 2021. Crunchyroll broadcasted the series synchronously with its airing in Japan and additionally streamed the English dubbed version.
