Otokonoko Anime ‘Senpai’ Reveals Cast, Staff for 2024 Debut at Project No. 9

The official online portal for the TV anime adaptation of Pom‘s Senpai is an Otokonoko (also known as Senpai wa Otokonoko or “this is him (cannot be anyone else)”) uploaded a video on Saturday that revealed the first key visual for the anime. The video includes the character’s voices but without any animation. It also introduces the primary cast, the primary staff, and the planned 2024 premiere.

The leading cast members include:

The anime is being directed by Shinsuke Yanagi (Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki, The Ryuo’s Work Is Never Done!) at project No.9. Character designs and the key visual above are the work of Shōto Shinkai. Yoriko Tomita (My Dress-Up Darling, Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose, As Miss Beelzebub likes it.) will manage the arrangements for the show’s scripts. Music composition is being handled by Yukari Hashimoto (March comes in like a lion, Mr. Osomatsu, Sarazanmai).

The anime is set to broadcast on Thursdays at 24:55 (technically, Fridays at 12:55 a.m.) in the Noitamina broadcast slot on Fuji TV and other platforms. Crunchyroll will also stream the anime.

Line Webtoon distributes the manga in English digitally. The manga is described as:

Does true love have the power to overcome all barriers? Saki, a high school student, declares her love to Makoto. Surprised by this, Makoto discloses his secret and although startled by this revelation, Saki, who is already deeply in love with him, does not seem bothered by it. After being rejected, Saki approaches Ryiuji, Makoto’s closest friend, in hopes of getting some advice on how to win over Makoto. Things get complicated when Ryuji starts acknowledging that he too might harbor feelings for his old buddy.

Pom introduced the manga on the LINE Manga app in 2019. The manga’s seventh volume was made available by Ichijinsha on November 24. The manga ranked first in AnimeJapan’s poll of “Manga We Want to See Animated” in 2022.
