Scott Pilgrim Takes Off draws its plot from Bryan Lee O’Malley‘s graphic novel series calledScott Pilgrim. The series made its debut on Netflix in November 2023. The original actors from the 2010 live-action film adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs. the World reprised their roles for the anime.

The series recently bagged the Best Animated Series – Non-Televised award at the Critics’ Choice Awards held on January 14. The GLAAD Media Awards put forward a nomination for it in the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category. The award winners will be acknowledged at two different events scheduled on March 14 and May 11.

O’Malley penned the project and collaborated as an executive producer with BenDavid Grabinski who also works on the new series, Are You Afraid of the Dark? O’Malley and Grabinski are also the force behind this show. The anime was crafted by Japan’s Science SARU, an organization that has previously worked on projects like DEVILMAN crybaby, The Heike Story, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!. The series was produced by the CEO of Science SARU, Eunyoung Choi, and directed by Abel Góngora who had previously directedStar Wars: Visions‘ “TO-B1”.

Edgar Wright, who was the director and co-writer of the live-action film adaptation in 2010, served as an executive producer along with his producing partner Nira Park, the film’s co-writer Michael Bacall, and Marc Platt Productions‘s personnel, Marc Platt, Jared Leboff, and Adam Seigel.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie concluded the year as the second-highest-earning movie globally and within the United States. It also set the record as the third highest-earning animated film globally and emerged as the seventeenth highest-earning film of all time. The movie was also the top-earning foreign film in Japan in 2023.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released within the U.S. and over 60 different markets globally in April 2023.
