Takagi-san Live-Action Film Releases Special Videos, Teaser Visual Revealed

The live-action movie adaptation based on Sōichirō Yamamoto‘s Teasing Master Takagi-san (Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san) manga, kicked off scheduled streaming for a unique video and a TV commercial for the film via the official staff on Thursday. The TV commercial narrated by voice actor Yuuki Kaji who interpreted the role of Nishikata in the anime adaptation.

The staff working on the film also unveiled a teaser visual with the slogan, “Nishikata, I’ve returned.”

The film is set to gear up its premiere in Japan starting May 31. It narrates a unique story that happens a decade after the original manga’s middle school setting. Mei Nagano (starred in the live-action My Broken Mariko, Ni no Kuni, Peach Girl, Burn the House Down)) stars as Takagi, currently a trainee teacher at her former school, whileFumiya Takahashi (Kamen Rider Zero-One) stars as Nishikata, presently a gym instructor in the same institution.

In connection with the manga, a live-action series adaptation
is also in the works, scheduled to debut
on the Drama Stream programming block of the TBS
channel on March 26, Tuesday, at 24:58 (technically, Wednesday at 12:58 a.m. JST). The show has plans for an international release and will stream on the Netflix
platform every Tuesday.

Rikiya Imaizumi, known for his work on the live-action Hōzuki-san Chi no Aneki, Chihiro-san, Just Only Love, is the director of both the live-action series and film adaptations. He is teamed up with Tomoki Kanazawa (Sanctuary, Sabakan) and Jun Hagimori (Sabakan) on the scriptwriting for the live-action series. Takashi Ohmama (Dances with the Dragons, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, The Gene of AI) is in charge of the music. All filming was conducted on location at Kagawa Prefecture’s Shōdo Island, where the previous anime adaptation was set.
