Fukuta Kishimoto, a 25-year-old, was handed down a one-year prison term by the Tokyo District Court for sending death threats to the famous voice actress,
Yui Ishikawa
known for voicing characters like Mikasa from
Attack on Titan
and Kyururu from
Kemono Friends 2.
In its verdict, the court noted how Kishimoto had a previous criminal record for a similar offense but nevertheless went ahead and repeated the crime.

Kishimoto was apprehended in December, and he confessed to posting a message earlier in the year on a public forum that he intended to attack Ishikawa with a lethal weapon and take her life. The legal prosecution had demanded an 18-month prison term given the severe psychological distress Ishikawa was reportedly going through, keeping her awake with fear at night. On the other hand, the defense argued for a less severe punishment.

Previously, in June 2020, Kishimoto had been taken into custody on suspicions of online intimidation and forcible obstruction of business activities. As per the releasing statement by the police, Kishimoto had been dispatching threats to anime crew members and voice actors over the Internet.

According to reports by the Sankei Shimbun newspaper and public television broadcasterNHK, Kishimoto was active on online message forums even before his initial arrest. It is reported that he threatened to kill TATSUKI, the anime director for the first Kemono Friends anime and Kemurikusa, along with a voice actress from Kemono Friends later identified as Ishikawa, her familial members, and the production crew by using a knife and setting them on fire. Kishimoto’s threats echoed the horrifying Kyoto Animation fire incident from July 2019 that led to the death of 36 individuals and left 33 injured. As per reports by the Sankei Shimbun and NHK, the production work was temporarily halted after the voice actress reported the threats to law enforcement authorities. Ishikawa was identified by NHK as the voice actress who received the threat. After the police investigation, Kishimoto admitted to his crime and affirmed he had a personal vendetta against the director but did not actually plan to harm him.

Back in May 2020, anime director TATSUKI reported to the police about receiving threats against himself and others. Likewise, Ishikawa also reported to the police about the threats she started receiving from April that same year.

Ishikawa is famous for lending her voice to various anime characters like Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan, Violet Everegarden in Violet Evergarden, Honoka Tsumura in Smile Down the Runway, and Kyururu in Kemono Friends 2. She has also performed several theme songs for anime like Attack on Titan: Junior High, Heroic Age, and Girlish Number.
